The honest answer
Any heavy container on a driveway carries some risk, and a company that tells you otherwise is selling. The risk is real but manageable, and it's mostly about three things: the weight of the delivery vehicle, whether the load is spread or concentrated, and the condition of your driveway before we get there. We can control the first two. The third is why we ask.
Why a trailer is gentler than a roll-off truck
Most dumpster companies deliver with a full-size roll-off truck, which is a heavy vehicle that has to drive up onto your driveway to place and retrieve the container. We run trailer-mounted roll-offs behind a pickup. Less vehicle weight on your surface, a shorter footprint, and a tighter turning radius — which also means we fit driveways that a roll-off truck has to decline.
Boards under the rails, every time
We put protective boards down under the container rails on driveway placements. It's not an upsell and we don't charge for it. Spreading the contact load across boards instead of concentrating it on two steel rails is the single most effective thing anyone can do to protect a driveway, and it takes us two minutes.
Driveways worth talking about before we arrive
Older concrete with existing cracks or spalling. Asphalt in hot weather, which softens and marks more easily than concrete. Stamped or decorative concrete. Anything freshly poured — new concrete needs real cure time before it takes a load like this. Steeply sloped driveways, where placement matters for both safety and surface. None of these are automatic no's. They are all reasons to tell us when you book so we can plan rather than improvise in your driveway.
The permit advantage of staying off the street
There's a second reason to keep the container on your own property, and it's regulatory. In this area, a dumpster entirely on your private driveway generally doesn't require a permit. The moment it sits in the public right-of-way, the rules change — Kansas City issues a dumpster permit through its CompassKC portal, Gladstone has a dedicated dumpster permit and an ordinance chapter to go with it, and most surrounding towns require written permission from the City. Driveway placement sidesteps all of that.
If your driveway truly won't work
Sometimes it doesn't — the drive is too short, too soft, too new, or too steep. In that case we'll talk about street placement and what permission it needs, a spot on the yard or gravel if the ground is firm, or whether a junk removal crew loading it themselves is simply the better answer for your situation. We'd rather send you the right way than force a container into a bad spot.

How it works
- Call, text or book online. Tell us what the project is and roughly what's going in. We'll recommend a size rather than upsell one, and quote you a flat price on the spot.
- We deliver to your address. Often same or next day. We set boards under the rails on driveway placements and put the container where you're actually working, not just at the top of the drive.
- Fill it on your schedule. Three days or seven, whichever you booked. Load heavy flat items first and fill the gaps — most people who need a second container filled the first one with air.
- Tell us you're done. Call or text and we'll pick it up. If you're near the weight allowance, say so and we'll talk through the cheapest way to handle it before we haul.
Frequently asked questions
Will a dumpster crack my concrete driveway?
It can if it's placed badly on a driveway that's already compromised, which is why we put protective boards under the rails and use a trailer-mounted roll-off rather than a full-size roll-off truck. On sound concrete in reasonable condition, driveway placement is routine and low risk.
Do you put anything down to protect the driveway?
Yes — boards under the container rails on every driveway delivery, at no charge. It spreads the load instead of concentrating it on two steel rails.
Can you deliver to a short or narrow driveway?
Often yes. A trailer-mounted roll-off has a shorter footprint and a tighter turn than a full-size roll-off truck, so we fit driveways others turn down. Send a photo when you book and we'll give you a straight answer.
Is asphalt riskier than concrete?
In hot weather, yes — asphalt softens and marks more readily. Tell us it's asphalt when you book, especially in midsummer, and we'll plan placement and boards accordingly.
Do I need a permit if the dumpster is on my driveway?
Generally no. Permits and City permission come into play when a container sits in the public right-of-way. Kansas City and Gladstone both have specific requirements for that; most surrounding towns require written permission from the City. On your own driveway, none of it applies.
