Shingles are heavier than almost anything else you'll throw away

This is the single most important thing to understand about renting a dumpster for a roof. A square of asphalt shingles — 100 square feet — typically weighs between 200 and 350 pounds depending on whether it's three-tab or architectural. A second layer doubles it. That means a roof can blow through a 2-ton allowance while the container still looks mostly empty, which is exactly the situation that produces an angry phone call about an overage fee. We'd rather do the math with you before the tearoff than after.

The rough math

Two tons is 4,000 pounds. At roughly 250 pounds per square for a single layer of architectural shingle, that's somewhere around 16 squares before you're at the allowance. A modest ranch roof might be 20 squares. Two layers on that same roof is 40. You can see how fast this goes. Tell us the approximate square footage and how many layers are coming off and we'll tell you whether you need one pull, two pulls, or a different plan.

Why the 20 yard is usually the answer

Not because you need the volume — you often don't — but because the extra room lets you spread the load and keeps the crew from having to stack precisely. At $375 for 3 days or $425 for 7, the step up from the 15 yard is fifty dollars. On a roof, take it.

Placement for a tearoff

Close to the eave, on the side you're working. A container fifteen feet from the drop zone costs a crew hours over a two-day tearoff. Tell us which side of the house you're starting on when you book and we'll place it accordingly instead of defaulting to the top of the driveway.

What goes in besides shingles

Felt, underlayment, old flashing, rotted decking, nails and ridge cap all go in the same container. Keep it to roofing material and you'll have a clean load. No paint, chemicals, or anything hazardous.

How it works

1. Call, text or book online. Tell us what the project is and roughly what's going in. We'll recommend a size rather than upsell one, and quote you a flat price on the spot.
2. We deliver to your address. Often same or next day. We set boards under the rails on driveway placements and put the container where you're actually working, not just at the top of the drive.
3. Fill it on your schedule. Three days or seven, whichever you booked. Load heavy flat items first and fill the gaps — most people who need a second container filled the first one with air.
4. Tell us you're done. Call or text and we'll pick it up. If you're near the weight allowance, say so and we'll talk through the cheapest way to handle it before we haul.
